Mapping Cultural Data: The Basics

Digital mapping provides one of the most engaging ways to visualise cultural data across space: digital maps can show connections between geographical areas, trace movement, or highlight geographical density. Time-layered mapping adds the additional dimension of time, allowing the visualisation of changing patterns and much more. Generating a digital map from cultural data might seem daunting, but in fact, with the right mapping tool and well-ordered data, a basic digital map can be generated in minutes. This guide provides a basic framework for generating data for digital mapping, and instructions to visualise your material through our partner platform, the Time-Layered Cultural Map of Australia. Happy mapping!
